SETTLING IN!

Greetings from Prague! We're finally here! We are in our 3rd week here and all is well. We prayed for God to give us a soft landing and He has answered our prayers. We were warmly welcomed by our team mates. We have been learning our way around, how to travel via trams, subway and foot, how to communicate when the only language you know is English, how to shop, and how to live as a family within our new environment.
The last two weeks have been very exciting, exhausting and overwhelming, all at the same time. It has been made clear to us, very quickly, that Prague is very beautiful, yet very dark. You rarely see people express happiness or joy. They're a very quiet society that keeps to
themselves. With that said, we feel very blessed to have received so much help from the Czechs. We have had 3 or 4 Czech women offer to help with language, getting around, and communicating with the kids' school for us, they've given us their home numbers and
have told us to call them anytime. God is moving in this city, and is putting His work right into our laps!

We are enjoying our new apartment and are beginning to make it our home.
We've been busily furnishing it and putting pictures up, to make it feel like ours. This is a picture from our top floor rooftop windows, looking down our street. The kids have
done great so far and have enjoyed learning how to live in the city. They love going
to school on the tram and the rides across town on the metro (subway). And we're all breaking
our walking shoes in! Who needs to schedule work-out time in when you walk everywhere? It's great!

Hunter and Allie have just started their 2nd week in a Czech school.
They finished their first week well, however, Allie is having a difficult time returning for her second week. All of the changes and the language barrier at school have finally become overwhelming to her and she's having to muttle through the difficulties that come with so many cultural changes. They're school is out at 12:30 each day, so that does help a bit.

The kids met with their language/school tutor, Mirka, for their first official tutoring session
today. Oh, how we already love Mirka!!! She is so sweet and good
with the kids. They each spent about an hour with her this af
ternoon and loved getting the one on one help with language. They had fun learning new words, the alphabet and numbers. She is also a big help to us culturally. Today has been a cold, wet day and she showed me how to make a good pot of hot tea...European style. What a gift she already is to our family!

We do not have internet access at home until Oct. 19, but look forward to being able to send more frequent updates and communicating regularly on-line again next week. Thank you for all of your prayers, we have felt every one of them! We are hoping to find several partners to partner with us each day of the week to pray for each one of us specifically. We would like to find one person for each of us that will set aside one day a week to pray for us and how God will choose to use us, or lift us up as needed for that day. Our hope is that we will each have a prayer partner for every day of the week. And in return, we would like to pray for you as well. Specific prayer requests can be sent via e-mail. If you're interested in choosing a day to partner with us, please let us know!

Please continue to pray:

Pray for the kids as they continue to adjust to school and all of the changes we've experienced in such a short amount of time. Pray that God protect them from Satan's discouragements, and matures them as they learn to fully rely on Him.

Pray for the strength of our marriage and family, and that we withstand the spiritual warfare that Satan is waging against us. Pray that we will walk in Victory as children of God.

Pray for Alena, a shop owner around the corner that we met our first weekend here. We have offered to help each other with language (she is hoping to become better with her English), and have exchanged numbers and e-mail. Pray that God provides opportunities to build a relationship with her and to witness to her.

Pray for Patricia, a teacher in the kids' school that has offered to help us through the language barriers. She also gave me her home number and told me to call anytime. Again, pray for a relationship to form with her and for opportunities to witness.

Pray for Mirka, the kids' tutor. She is a Believer and my hope is that she can help me better understand how to share the Gospel in a way that the Czechs will be open to hearing it. She's taken on a big task by offering to help us and our kids' learn language, culture and help us communicate with the school. I'm hoping to form a dear relationship with Mirka.

Please pray for Andi, she works in the corner grocery store on the first floor of our building. We see her often, and hope that she will see a difference in our lives that creates curiosity for her, and will lead to us being able to share the Gospel with her.

Pray for our language learning. Clem and I begin classes on Monday. We're eager to jump in and improve our communication skills!!! I'm becoming increasingly tired of playing charades! :) Please pray that God give us a special ability to hear and speak this difficult language, and that we see continued progress with our language learning over the coming year.

Please pray for our new neighbors and those that we meet in our community. Pray that their hearts be softened to God's truth, and that He open our eyes to the needs around us and that we don't miss how He chooses to use us each day to show his love and truth to the world around us.

With Love,

Clem, Carrie, Hunter and Allie

  1. We are praying for all of you as you settle in. It sounds as though you are off and running--you are doing great! I'm so glad your team did so much to welcome and get ready for you.

Carrie, I am going to pray for you on Monday mornings as I get ready for my Moms In Touch meeting. I'll pray according to the truths of the scriptures we are using that day for you as you parent your children through this transition. And of course I can't pray for that without praying for your kiddoes too. :-)

  2. Oh, it is so good to hear from you. I have chills looking at your family picture...a family who absolutely loves the Lord and is delighting in the amazing ministry call He has placed in your lives. May He continue to bless you abundantly and may He be greatly glorified. What a joy to join you in prayer!
